I've finished both the manhwa, and I'm currently reading Ragnarok, plus I'm almost finished with season 2. I haven't seen many, if any at all, toxic fans, closest thing I've personally seen are the a-holes who spoil the absolute crap out of it.

Though, I'm sure the exist, just as much toxic BNHA fans, toxic OPM fans, etc. It just so happens that in all communities, especially anime and games, the toxic fans tend to be the loudest.

SL and DS, two shows with average plot but carried by the studio, both having a large fan community. But why is SL passionately defended ? Anyone who criticized the show got bashed relentlessly, and they'll spam things like 'hating popular things doesn’t make you an interesting person.' Meanwhile, the other one doesn’t get the same treatment. At that time, hating on DS for being mediocre show but got carried by Ufotable was accepted by many.
What are the differences tho?

@Kuterisu I think it's the hype of the moment, even Demon Slayer was passionately defended at the time because of the hype that people were riding, then over the years the hype has died down and many more people have started to recognize it as a halfway story.

@Leon888 Solo Leveling is not my favorite anime, it's not even in my top 5, my favorite one is Steins;Gate, but I still enjoy Solo Leveling for what it is, just a good anime with good animation and fighting scenes and that's it, I'm not watching this anime for the story or the characters because there is nothing deep here for the same reason I don't watch Demon Slayer for the story or the characters either, and I still enjoy both of them despite hating the shitty comedy in Demon Slayer and shitty characters like Zenitsu, and for this reason alone I enjoy Solo Leveling more because at least I don't have to deal with shitty comedy or shitty characters like Zenitsu in it.
