persona non grata
Soma is my favourite song from them. I haven´t really listened to anything they´ve done after Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness, but i really liked their early albums.

I've toyed with the idea of getting tickets, but for the price they're charging here I think I rather hold out till Nightwish.

Pumpkins are superb. One of those great bands that seems known all over the world, but never really exploded into the ubiquitous "massive band" status that sometimes eludes a band for years then finally arrives. Probably for the best because the album that usually transforms a band into world-conquerers is usually shit, and said band never return to their former glory and continue to churn out a bland, diluted form of what they used to be.

My favourite Pumpkins song, not to be too cliche, is either Today or Tonight Tonight. Probably Today, now that I think about it. Although I can't resist popping on Zero every now and again and nodding along, especially if I've got the PS2 out.

i thought wrong, the R.E.M. was gay, these are cool.

Seriously, knock off the homophobia. That's two threads I've seen it from you today already.

25 bucks here. Not too bad at all.
Put some makeup on Anders and throw him on webcam: i'm sure Roald will pay big to watch him doing weird things :D

Almost 50 euro here ;-\

And what Anders and Roald do is their business. I try not to concern myself with it too much.

My favorite Pumpkins albums were Machina: Machines of God and the Adore album.

Their new drummer is dope....a youngster too!

Great band, Gish & Siamese Dream got me on board big time in the 90's. I've seen them four times in the UK . They lost their way a bit musically but Oceania is back on track. Soundgarden are touring soon.......... now we are talking :)

Oh my, last time I saw The Smashing Pumpkins was at the Freeman Coliseum back in 1996. Back when they had Melissa Auf Der Maur and James Iha. Back before Jimmy Chamberlin was fired for ODing with Jonathan Melvoin, which in turn led to his death :( The Pumpkins have been dead to me a very long time.

Have Fun I Guess

:/

knows petras secret: she farted.
sweet, sab!

(fun fact: last time she was here she picked up one of their CDs with us at the store.)

i tossed around seeing the new line up, decided on trying to see NIN this go around.

saw bill corgan on his solo tour (future embrace) in l.a., then saw the pumpkins during the zeitgeist tour twice. 2008 i think. great show, but, then again, they still had jimmy. jimmy is amazing. oceania is OK but i miss jimmy too much to really embrace it. teargarden was decent, however.

tickets go on sale tomorrow for NIN (shows in november i think), me and my girl are gonna try and make it.

great band. was the lead singer gay?

you are a dildo.

(grr.)

as for favourites, ive been a diehard fan of SP for a long fucking time. own all the records, box sets, all that. machina was amazing, machina 2 was also great (and secret.) adore was always a favourite even despite jimmy not being there. i did also very much enjoy zeitgeist. hard to say, but i think i of the mourning, the everlasting gaze, and glass and the ghost children are some of my favourite songs. soma, geek usa, then there's the entire mellon collie album...

then there's the amazing drumming on united states. i cant fucking pick.

I like Smashing Pumpkins, Melloncollie, and Siamese Dream were both in our cassette library.

"Bullets and Butterflywings," I can totally relate to.

I've posted my opinion of them on the board several times before. In case you don't remember, it goes a little something like this: when I was a teenager I was a HUGE SP fan. Maybe not as big as squally, but pretty big. When they got back together (that's a very loose term, as it was only Billy and Jimmy playing with some random girl and some Korean dude who weren't in the original lineup) they started their tour with 3 weeks at the Fillmore because Billy supposedly loved the vibe of the place. I was absolutely ecstatic that I would be working for them. It was a huge production with more shit than actually can fit on the stage, or in the building for that matter, but, whatever, it was the Smashing Pumpkins! Then the first show happened, and something happened that completely killed any enthusiasm I had to see them.

In between songs, people were calling things out, and Billy was mostly a prick and ignored them. At one point someone said something along the lines of, "Billy, we know that it's not about the money, it's about the music." Lo and behold, the one comment that he actually acknowledges he answers with, "No, the other band was about the music, but you guys didn't care. This one's about the money."

Between that comment, him telling the crowd that he wouldn't play their requests, but only what HE wanted to play, and dealing with his ego for 3 weeks, I decided I couldn't really call myself a fan anymore. I still think they have great music and that Billy's a great songwriter, I just don't care for them anymore.

In a way, listening to them is like listening to Wagner. Wagner was a racist and a misogynist, but he wrote beautiful music. In order to enjoy Wagner you have to completely put aside your opinions of him and focus only on the music. With SP I have to do the same.

I think my favorite SP songs are Mayonnaise, Disarm, Bullet Train to Osaka, and Jupiter's Lament.

I've toyed with the idea of getting tickets, but for the price they're charging here I think I rather hold out till Nightwish.

I thought this thread was going to be about people in Barcelona smashing pumpkins in the streets.

That being said, the only song I ever heard (and liked) from this band is.....
